The Foam Sheathing Coalition (FSC) Announces Its First Standards Development Initiative

Washington, DC – On June 25th the Foam Sheathing Coalition announced that it will be working with the Structural Building Components Association to develop its first standard. SBCA is an accredited ANSI standards development organization and is working with its SBCA Wall Panel Council to create FSC’s first standard tentatively designated as ANSI/SBCA/FSC 1 entitled “Standard Practice for the Testing, Design and Application of Foam Plastic Insulation used as Wall Sheathing.”

This standard is a comprehensive specification for the testing/quality control, performance characteristics, design and application of foam plastic insulation used as sheathing.

The key stakeholders include; foam sheathing manufacturers, chemical suppliers, building component manufacturers who produce wall panels, those interested in energy code compliance, builders and framers to name a few.

This standard will aid the user in the application of foam sheathing to safely resist all loads, including but not limited to dead loads, live loads, wind loads, seismic loads, etc. and provide structural properties and performance requirements where none currently exist.

The Structural Building Components Association is an international not-for-profit trade association of structural building component manufacturers. Currently, SBCA has 516 component manufacturer members, 35 chapters, and nearly 209 supplier and related services members seeking to protect and expand the markets for the products they manufacture.

The Foam Sheathing Coalition is an international not-for-profit trade association of foam sheathing manufacturers. Currently, FSC has 5 foam sheathing manufacturer members, 6 aligned association and supplier members seeking to protect and expand the markets for the products they manufacture.
