CFSEI Announces Board Of Directors Roster For 2008-2009
The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) announced during its Annual Meeting last month the election of its 2008-2009 officers and newly elected directors. Jeff Klaiman, P.E., principal and vice president of Specialty Engineering for ADTEK Engineers Inc. in Fairfax, Va., was installed as the new Board President, while John Matsen, P.E., Matsen Ford Design Associates, Inc., was elected vice president. The CFSEI is the technical institute of the Steel Framing Alliance.

Mr. Klaiman joined CFSEI’s Board in 2005 and served as vice president from 2007-08. He follows Jeff Ellis, P.E., S.E., Simpson Strong-Tie, Inc., who continues to serve as immediate past president. Mr. Klaiman also is the current president of the Mid-Atlantic Steel Framing Alliance and serves on several committees of the American Iron & Steel Institute’s (AISI) Committee on Specifications and Committee on Framing Standards.

“Under the leadership of my predecessors, Jeff Ellis and Ben Schafer, CFSEI developed a comprehensive strategy for the future and re-tooled many of its programs to better meet the needs of engineers interested in cold-formed steel framing,” Mr. Klaiman said. “The Institute is making major strides in the enhancement of its technical resources and programs. I’m proud to have served on the Board during this period of forward transitioning, and am eager to continue these efforts on behalf of Institute members.”

Three engineers distinguished for their knowledge and expertise in cold-formed steel framing were also elected by CFSEI members to serve two-year terms on the Institute’s Board:

Mr. Babich currently holds positions as chairman for the AISI/COFS Truss Subcommittee and is an inaugural member of the CFSEI Florida Chapter board of directors.
  • Richard B. Haws, P.E., As department manager of Technical Services for NUCONSTEEL in Denton, Texas, Mr. Haws is charged with overall management, strategic direction, integration and guidance of NUCONSTEEL’s varied technical efforts and organizations. He has worked in the cold-formed steel industry for several years, including six years as the AISI’s manager of Light Construction where he developed resources to enable the markets for steel framing. Currently, he also serves as chairman of the AISI COFS and vice chairman of the AISI Committee on Specifications.
  • Sutton Stephens, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., is an associate professor at Kansas State University (KSU) in Manhattan, Kan. Dr. Stephens joined KSU in 2001 as Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006. His area of research is in cold-formed steel and he is a member of the AISI COFS.
