CFSEI Awards Program Submissions
Due June 1; Judging Panel Announced
The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI), technical
institute of the Steel Framing Alliance (SFA), today
announced the distinguished judging panel for the inaugural
CFSEI Award for Innovative Design. All submissions are
due by June 1st.
The Award recognizes outstanding innovations in cold-formed
steel design and application, and will be presented
during a ceremony at METALCON International in October.
Industry experts representing diverse facets of the
steel framing design process will review Award competition
entries and identify the winning project and honorable
mention candidates.
The judges for the Award for Innovative Design are:
- Greg Greenlee, P.E.,
Director of Engineering, USP Structural Connectors
(Burnsville, Minn.).
- Frank Laux, S.E., RA,
Structural Systems Engineer, USG Corporation (Deer
Park, Ill.).
- Troy Monier, Territory
Representative, Simpson Strong-Tie Co. (San Francisco,
Calif.).
- Isaac Kim, P.E., Innovative
Design and Engineering Associates, Inc. (Hayward,
Calif.).
- Gregory Kulpa, P.E.,
Swartz and Kulpa Engineering, Inc. (Tustin, Calif.).
- Kevin Greer, Project
Executive, KHS&S Contractors (Anaheim, Calif.).
- Richie Chisholm, Lacerte
Builders (Pompano Beach, Fla.).
- Reynaud L. Serrette, Ph.D.,
Center for Light Frame Structural Research, Department
of Civil Engineering, Santa Clara University (Santa
Clara, Calif.).
“CFSEI has assembled some of the most accomplished
professionals in the field of cold-formed steel design
and construction to identify the project that best exemplifies
innovation in cold-formed steel framing,” CFSEI
President Jeff Klaiman said. “Numerous new technologies,
designs and techniques have been introduced in recent
years and the judges will have a tough assignment choosing
the project that is most deserving of the Institute’s
Award.”
To be considered, entrants must submit a project that
meets at least one of the six award criteria, such as
innovative use of the American Iron and Steel Institute’s
Standards for Cold-Formed Steel Framing or the
North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed
Steel Structural Members to solve design or construction
challenges. Designs that use an innovative product,
process, tool, technique, or methodology also qualify.
Eligible projects must have been completed or initiated
between January 1, 2002 and April 30, 2008.
CFSEI’s Award for Innovative Design will be
presented to the engineering team for the winning project
at a ceremony at METALCON International in Baltimore,
Md., this October. Architects, manufacturers, distributors,
contractors and other parties involved will also be
recognized.
The deadline to submit projects for the Award is June
1, 2008. Multiple entries are permissible and there
is no cost to enter the competition. Entry Forms, submission
instructions and detailed eligibility criteria are available
at www.cfsei.org.
